Clay was the ancient material coating the hands of hunters pressed to the wall of a cave in Lascaux, and the Mica cooking pots of the Navajo, the Coptic organ storage jars of the Egyptians, the Amphora of the Greeks transporting olive oil to the known world. And it was clay that powered the Silk Road trade from China; those classic blue and white bone-infused vessels the English copied until it also became theirs. Clay certainly influences my creative expression. Pairing storytelling and 'the poetic' in items we use daily is my focus at present. |
